Christmas songs are blaring from loudspeakers, multi-coloured lights are twinkling in the main streets of towns and cities, and heavily decorated Christmas trees are taking up corners in Maltese sitting rooms; we’re definitely all geared up for Christmas!
What better way to get into the Christmas spirit than attending a Christmas market? The Youth Village Christmas Market promises to be a fun, Christmassy event to start off December in style. Vida Magazine talked to Sarah Spiteri, one of the organisers, to see what to expect from this exciting event.
When was the first ever Youth Christmas Market organised?
The Youth Village Christmas Market is being organised for the 2nd time following last year’s successful event, where Aġenzija Żgħażagħ also held the official opening of the Youth Village. The Youth Village is an open space where events and other initiatives targeting young people are held.
Who participates in the Youth Village Christmas Market?
The Youth Village Christmas Market is a unique space and opportunity for young people to exhibit their talents, sell their produce and acquire skills in different areas. 25 young entrepreneurs this year will be at the stalls selling their different handmade produce, whilst a good number of young people will be delivering various hands-on activities in the kids’ area. There will also be youths delivering continuous entertainment at the main stage, be it dance, music or jamming sessions. We encourage young people to attend the jamming sessions and experience what it’s like to be part of a band whilst making use of different instruments or sing on our open mics.
A group will also be providing visitors with different options of homemade festive food at the cafeteria which will be run by the youth themselves, in collaboration with youth workers from Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.
Who should attend the Youth Market ?
The Youth Village Christmas Market is open to everyone. We are inviting everyone to experience this magical journey, which is also a colourful kick-off event for the coming Christmas Season.
What products will be available? What is the range of prices?
All the entrepreneurs involved are offering professional handmade items that will make a perfect gift for this holiday season. The best part? There are gifts to fit everyone’s budget.
What is the ‘Charity Christmas Tree’ Initiative?
Visitors at the Youth Village Christmas Market can participate in this initiative by bringing a gift (any gift suitable for youths). These gifts will then be placed in a hamper that will be given to entities which work with vulnerable young adults.
What would you like to achieve with such an event?
This event has different aims; to empower young people, to allow youths to work together, explore and identify new skills and more. Above all, however, we want to give everyone a merry and bright experience during this festive season.
The Youth Village Christmas Market is happening this weekend, 3rd & 4th December from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Agenzija Żgħażagħ, St Joseph High Road, Santa Venera. Find more details here.
